Leave of Absence Update: Mr Barry Hendricks

At a SASCOC Board meeting held on Wednesday, 15 July 2020, the Board resolved to respect the ongoing process being undertaken by the SASCOC Judicial Body in respect of Mr Barry Hendricks.

SASCOC’s Judicial Body Chairperson Advocate Willem Edeling SC advised on 13 July 2020, that despite the arbitration proceedings having been successfully finalised in Mr Hendricks’ favour, that disciplinary proceedings should be instituted against him and that he should remain on leave of absence pending the finalisation of those proceedings.

The SASCOC Board has also resolved to continue to remain independent thereof, but will monitor this process until it is finalised and will keep the membership informed of any significant developments as they arise.

The legal opinion compiled by Advocate Baloyi-Mere in respect of the complaint by Ms ME Ravele against Mr Barry Hendricks and Mr Gavin Crookes, recommended that Ms Ravele should refer her dispute regarding interference with her nomination for election to the SASCOC Board, to arbitration.

The Board then resolved to refer the findings contained in the opinion with regards to Mr Hendricks’ conduct to its independent Judicial Body for investigation and refer the conduct of Mr Crookes to Tennis SA for further investigation.

On 10 July 2020, Tennis SA reported that their independent investigations were finalised and recommended that sufficient cause exists for steps to be taken against its board members, Ms Ravele and Mr Crookes. These processes are currently underway.

Please note : SASCOC will not be available for further media comment on this matter.
